Homestuck Horn Tutorials (No Clay)

 A lot of people make their horns out of paper clay, but where I live, we either don’t have paper clay, or it’s really expensive. So I fashioned some out of wire, masking tape, and paper.

1. The structure of the horns is just wires. I found several cylindrical objects, wrapped wire around it two or three times, and secured the rounds together by winding wire around it. You want to get the wire bound around the entire circle, or at least three-fourths of it, or you’re going to have some problems later on. Make two sets of as many circles as you need.

2. Get a length of wire, and attach the circles to it. This wire is secured by the wire you wrapped around the circles earlier. When you get to the last circle, run the thread across the circle. Reinforce this lone wire with another three to four, and make sure that another line of wire crosses the first line on the last circle. This is essential for attaching the horns to the headband.

If the horn is curved, like most of them are, the wire on one side should be a bit shorter than the other, to give the curved effect.

3. I wrapped the wires in more tape because I like having a sturdier surface for taping the strips of paper to wrap the horns. But I don’t think you really have to do it. I used 1”-2” strips of paper, and I stuffed it with newspaper while I was wrapping it.

For the tips of the horns, I made a sort of cone-like shape.

4. After wrapping everything with paper, I wrapped it with masking tape. This is the tricky part, because you have to make sure that the tape doesn’t wrinkle, because that would ruin the whole “smooth” look. If it’s unavoidable though, I guess you could wrap it in a really thin layer of clay, just too smoothen it.

5. After painting it, attach it to the headband/ clips using the wire under the horns.

I’m really low-tech, and my camera isn’t really one of those high-pixelated ones, so I apologize for low-res pictures.
